Creating Elkford |
The Elkford Arts Studio has been active since 2012 under the auspices of the Elkford Women’s Task Force, utilizing the old preschool room in the Rec Centre. What was an empty room became Elkford’s first community art space; providing art classes and art experiences in painting and pottery. Since the fall of 2012 we have continued to provide a vibrant, ever evolving community art centre and in 2014 the Elkford Arts Council Society was incorporated. The Arts Council supports the social well-being of every community member through the use of art as a vehicle for personal and community growth. By providing an artistic space in our community, it creates a more diversified choice for social interaction in our community. Art classes are held from September to December and January to April for children, youth and adults. Community members who attend our programs range in age from eight to sixty, from the inexperienced to the professional artist. All are welcome. Our Goals and Objectives are to: · Positively impact the social well-being of community members by using art as a vehicle for social growth · Create a vibrant, community art space sensitive to the needs of community members · Establish community art events to promote the arts in Elkford · Support children and youth in our rural community by providing a creative outlet The Elkford Arts Council Society needs yearly support from many partners. Currently we receive support from the District of Elkford, Elk Valley Thrift Shop, Columbia Basin Trust and donations. We continue to look for sustainable funding to maintain a viable art space. |

“Well, people can learn art, and they have, because we now have an art studio in Elkford, and that means we know how to draw. “ – Levi
